The plan for today was for two of us to take the Skyrail to
Kuranda while the third would drive up to Kuranda, meet up with them and then
we would continue to do a tour of the Tableland. My licence had expired at
midnight on Sunday and the bureaucrats at Transport Tasmania could never work
up enough speed to make me legal again so quickly.
So the plan was carried out and two of us were dropped off
at the Cairns end of Skyrail while the third drove up the pass.

Reunited, we
strolled around Kuranda and looked at all the touristy stuff you could buy
there.

Then we visited the butterfly place - Kuranda best attraction as far as I'm concerned.

Then we went on to Jacques Coffee Farm near Mareeba, where we did the
tour of the plantation and works, and were treated to the same charming rant
against Mr Keating’s government and the Queensland Government we had heard 5
years ago. They certainly persevered against a lot of adversity, and have got a
very nice operation now to show for it.

Then we drove through Mareeba, Atherton,
Yungaburra and onto the Gillies Highway to check out the pass to Gordonvale. If
it was gentler on the system than the Kuranda Pass, we would take that one the
next day after dropping off Renske, on our way westward. However, the pass was
much less caravan-friendly, so we decided to go over Kuranda.
We got back to Cairns just in time for a nice early meal at Barnacle Bill's on the Esplanade.
