Day 38: The Dry no longer (09/07/12)

We had decided to stay another day in Cairns to give Renske a chance to reconfigure the internal clock, etc. However, we told the Caravan Park people of this change of plan two hours after our site had been given to somebody else for Monday night. What to do? Well, relocate to a grass site at the back of the ground.
Rain had made its appearance, both inside the 2 x 2 tent we had put up for Renske and on the grassed site we were to occupy. Solution for the tent: ditch it and buy a new one. Solution for the muddy grass: put our new ground cover on it. This lessened the mud – somewhat. Rain continued throughout the day, gradually slicing the edges off our comfort zone.
Our new grassy wet site. Well, the grass was still there, but a large camper-trailer set-up had been sitting on it for a week or two....

Nevertheless, brave face and all, we went out, bought our tent, put it up and made everything as shipshape for a night of rain as we could. Well, Cairns escaped most of the really heavy rain – we only got 60mm at Crystal Cascades. Further south, around Townsville creeks were flooded, records were broken, etc.
