Day 58 Sunday in Camooweal (29/07/12)

This Sunday we were, once again, left to our own devices as far as worship was concerned. We chose another video sermon, this time from the Langley, B.C. congregation, given by Rev Bill Wielenga, pastor of the ARC congregation across the border in Washington state. The sermon was about Matthew 7: 24-27, the part of the Sermon on the Mount concerning the two house builders: on the rock and on the sand. Rev Wielenga presented some interesting insight on how to understand this passage – given that it is such a familiar text with a seemingly straightforward message about preparedness. In very clear and measured language he deconstructed the “obvious” reading and presented the case for a starker reading – in the life of a Christian you only get one chance to do it right, and the outcome is final. Yet it was not a gospel of works, he took pains to avoid that.
By the time we had finished our video service, all the other caravanners had left, as there is not much to see and do in Camooweal on a Sunday (or any other day, for that matter). We walked around the town, 300 meters that way, turn around, go back and continue 150 meters  this way. That was the town, and half the places you had walked past on the highway were shuttered, dead and uninhabited. The only noise in town, except for the odd passing road train, was the colourful language coming from the verandah of the pub.
Sunday evening soup. Out of a plastic container. Warmed up in the microwave. Minimal afwash (Dutch word!)

If this sunset looks like yesterday's sunset, it's because it was taken in the same place. If our sunset pictures are becoming a drag, register your protest now!
So, a quiet day of reading, updating the blog, and counting the times the old white Magna saloon with the very dark windows went past the side of the caravan park, crossed the highway, and then returned a couple of minutes later. Lost count in the dozens.
